This month, we’re celebrating the timeless impact of professional cabinet resurfacing! At Lasting Impressions, LLC, our craftsmen take worn or outdated cabinets and restore them with durable finishes, updated styles, and a fresh new look—without the cost of a full remodel.
A quality resurfacing job is more than a facelift. It’s a long-term investment that adds value, durability, and pride to your home for many years. With expert workmanship and premium materials, your kitchen transformation will remain stunning through everyday use, family gatherings, and years of memories.
Crafted to Last. Designed to Impress.
At Lasting Impressions, LLC in Grand Ledge, Michigan, we believe a beautiful kitchen starts with strong craftsmanship and the right process. Cabinet resurfacing is more than a quick makeover—it’s a detailed, careful restoration that protects and refreshes your home for years of enjoyment.
Our Proven Process for Long-Term Quality
Thorough cleaning and prep to remove oils and buildup
Precision sanding for a smooth bonding surface
Professional-grade repair work for chips, dents, and wear
High-quality coatings and finishes designed for durability
Detailed sealing and curing to protect against moisture, scratches, and daily use
The result? A like-new kitchen without the cost of replacing your cabinets—built to stand up to family life, cooking, and years of daily use.
Quality Workmanship. Long-Term Beauty.
When it comes to resurfacing kitchen cabinets, not all results are created equal. Many companies offer quick “paint-over” jobs that look nice for a few months, but soon begin to chip, peel, or fade. At Lasting Impressions, LLC in Grand Ledge, Michigan, we do things differently—because your home deserves craftsmanship that stands the test of time.
What Makes Our Work Last Longer?
While some contractors skip steps to save time, our team follows a proven, multi-stage process that ensures lasting beauty:
Deep cleaning and preparation (not just a wipe-down)
Professional sanding and bonding to prevent peeling
Repairs before finishing so imperfections don’t return
Industry-leading coatings and finishes built for durability
Proper curing time to ensure a rock-solid seal
The difference shows up not in months, but in years of smooth, stunning surfaces that resist moisture, wear, and everyday kitchen life.
Lasting Impressions Delivers Workmanship That Endures
This is where your remodel truly comes to life. We’ve been perfecting the art of finish work since 2008, and our finishing crew is led by Damien, who has been with us since 2011. Prior to joining our team, Damien ran his own finishing business for 12 years—bringing his total experience to over 26 years mastering remodel finishing.
Having a crew chief with this level of experience is an incredible benefit. It means having someone you can trust to care about your project as much as you do. Finish work requires a special kind of person—someone who is detail-oriented, patient, and genuinely invested in achieving perfection. It takes time, skill, and pride to deliver results that meet the highest expectations.
While much of a remodel happens behind the scenes, finish work is what you see and experience every day. Smooth drywall surfaces, seamless caulk lines, invisible nail holes, and precise priming and painting are what elevate a remodel from good to exceptional.
At Lasting Impressions, our goal is to ensure your remodel is completed exactly the way you envisioned. We would love the opportunity to bring your project across the finish line and make it look and feel just as you dreamed it would
We recently added a new page to our company website to provide deeper insight into our daily practices and the standards that drive our commitment to quality.
This page was designed to give visitors a clearer understanding of how we approach each project, from initial planning to final completion. By highlighting our processes, attention to detail, and dedication to craftsmanship, we aim to demonstrate the level of care and professionalism that sets our company apart.
Transparency is important to us, and this addition allows clients and prospective customers to see exactly what goes into delivering consistent, high-quality results. It outlines the methods we follow, the materials we trust, and the principles that guide our team every day. Our goal is not only to meet expectations but to exceed them by maintaining strong work ethics, clear communication, and dependable service.
We invite you to explore this new page titled ‘Newsletters’ to learn more about what makes our approach effective and why quality remains at the center of everything we do.
Clear, proactive communication has been one of our core policies since day one. Simply put: don’t allow concerns to become problems. Address them early, openly, and professionally.
Here’s what that looks like in practice:
• Address issues immediately. If something goes wrong, inform the customer right away and present a solution.
• Communicate delays promptly. Running 10 minutes behind? Let both the customer and crew know as soon as possible so expectations are managed.
• Raise unforeseen discoveries quickly. If we uncover something unexpected in a customer’s home, communicate it immediately and provide clear options for resolution.
• Be transparent about timelines. If a project will take longer than planned, communicate that early and offer solutions to minimize inconvenience.
• Maintain availability. Make it easy for customers to ask questions before, during, and after the project.
• Manage expectations daily. At the end of each workday, update customers on:
• What was accomplished
• What comes next
• What they should expect tomorrow
In the trades, there’s often an unfortunate “allergy” to strong communication. We’ve seen firsthand how that affects customers—and how it can complicate working relationships between contractors.
That’s why we keep communication at the forefront of everything we do. We are continually refining our processes and improving how we live out this policy every day.
We firmly believe that our commitment to clear, proactive communication is one of the key factors that sets us apart from the competition.
Has your dream kitchen or interior renovation project started to feel like a fantasy because of rising construction costs? Our cabinet refinishing or resurfacing system can turn that dream into reality—without the massive price tag of a full remodel.
By saving thousands or even tens of thousands on what you put into your cabinets, you’ll free up tons of room in your budget for the upgrades you didn't think were possible. Imagine being able to add beautiful new solid surface countertops to your project, a stylish tile backsplash, or even brand-new flooring. With the money we'll save you on your kitchen, go ahead and ask us to refresh the interior paint throughout your home. This is the year to finally upgrade and turn your home into the home's you've been looking at on Pinterest!
We’d love the opportunity to talk within you about the renovation ideas you’ve been dreaming about—and show you just how achievable they can be.
Has I’ve always told our cabinet customers to use Dawn dish soap and a soft cotton cloth to clean their painted cabinets—and that’s still my advice. Dawn is a great cleaner and degreaser, and it’s gentle on painted surfaces. A soft cotton cloth is also important because it won’t affect the sheen of the finish the way abrasive sponges, scrub pads, or magic erasers can.
However, I recently discovered that Dawn Powerwash spray (which I personally love using) contains denatured alcohol. You can look it up. The reason this matters is because we use an alcohol-based shellac primer on our cabinets before spraying Emerald Urethane Satin as the topcoat. Denatured alcohol is actually the one thing that will clean that primer right off a surface—which means it’s not something you want regularly sitting on your painted cabinets.
It’s also worth noting that denatured alcohol is a highly flammable substance, making it less than ideal for routine cleaning around the home.
I just wanted to put the word out so no one accidentally damages their cabinets while trying to keep them clean. I still highly recommend regular Dawn dish soap—just skip the Powerwash version for your cabinets.
Thanks so much for all of your continued support, Mid-Michigan!

When it comes to updating kitchen cabinets, two popular options are cabinet painting and cabinet resurfacing. Each method offers distinct advantages and caters to different needs, making it essential for businesses to understand their differences. This article will explore the nuances of cabinet painting versus resurfacing, helping you make an informed decision for your next kitchen renovation project. We will delve into the processes involved, the benefits and drawbacks of each method, and provide guidance on selecting the best option for your specific requirements. Additionally, we will highlight how Lasting Impressions, a Michigan-based company, can assist you in achieving your cabinet refinishing goals.
Cabinet painting and cabinet resurfacing are two effective methods for updating the look of kitchen cabinets. Cabinet painting involves applying a fresh coat of paint to the existing cabinet surfaces, while cabinet resurfacing entails replacing the cabinet doors and drawer fronts with new materials, often including a veneer. Understanding these methods is crucial for businesses looking to enhance their kitchen aesthetics without undergoing a full renovation.
The primary differences between cabinet painting and resurfacing lie in the extent of the work and the materials used.
Cabinet Painting: This method is less comprehensive, focusing on the exterior surfaces of the cabinets. It is typically quicker and more cost-effective.
Cabinet Resurfacing: This approach may involve replacing parts of the cabinets, providing a more extensive update. It often results in a more durable finish due to the new materials used.
Both cabinet painting and resurfacing have their pros and cons, which can influence your decision based on your specific needs.
Cabinet painting offers several advantages, including:
Quick Turnaround Time: The process can often be completed in a matter of days, minimizing disruption to your business operations.
Lower Cost: Generally, painting is more affordable than resurfacing, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious businesses.
Customization: A wide range of colors and finishes allows for greater personalization.
However, there are some disadvantages:
Potential for Shorter Lifespan: Painted surfaces may wear down faster than new materials used in resurfacing.
Preparation Required: Proper surface preparation is essential to ensure a smooth finish and longevity.
Cabinet resurfacing also has its benefits:
Longer-Lasting Results: New materials can provide a more durable finish, extending the life of your cabinets.
Comprehensive Updates: This method allows for a more significant transformation, including new styles and finishes.
Increased Property Value: A well-done resurfacing can enhance the overall value of your property.
On the downside:
Higher Initial Investment: Resurfacing typically requires a larger upfront cost compared to painting.
Longer Process: The resurfacing process can take longer, which may not be ideal for businesses needing quick updates.
When deciding between cabinet painting and resurfacing, consider the following factors:
Assess the Condition of Cabinets: If the cabinets are structurally sound but just need a cosmetic update, painting may be sufficient. If they are damaged or outdated, resurfacing might be the better choice.
Consider Budget Constraints: Evaluate your budget and determine which option aligns with your financial goals.
Evaluate Desired Outcomes: Think about the aesthetic and functional results you want to achieve.
Lasting Impressions can provide expert advice and services tailored to your specific needs, ensuring you make the best choice for your business.
Cabinet painting is the process of applying a new coat of paint to existing cabinet surfaces, transforming their appearance without replacing any materials. This method is often chosen for its cost-effectiveness and speed. On the other hand, cabinet resurfacing involves replacing the cabinet doors and drawer fronts with new materials, such as laminate or wood veneer, providing a fresh look and improved durability.
The cabinet painting process typically involves several steps:
Preparation: Cleaning and sanding the surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
Priming: Applying a primer to enhance the paint's durability and finish.
Painting: Using high-quality paint, often in multiple coats, to achieve the desired color and finish.
Materials used in cabinet painting include specialized cabinet paints that are designed to withstand wear and tear, ensuring a long-lasting finish.
Cabinet resurfacing involves a detailed process that includes:
Removal of Old Doors: Taking off existing cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
Surface Preparation: Cleaning and preparing the cabinet frames for new materials.
Application of Veneer: Installing new veneer materials, which can include wood, laminate, or other finishes.
Common veneer materials used in resurfacing include high-pressure laminates and real wood veneers, which provide a fresh and modern look.
Evaluating the pros and cons of both methods can help businesses make informed decisions.
Cabinet Painting:
Cabinet Resurfacing:
Cabinet painting is particularly advantageous for commercial spaces due to its cost-effectiveness and aesthetic flexibility. Businesses can achieve a fresh look without the significant investment required for resurfacing. Additionally, the quick turnaround time allows for minimal disruption to operations, making it an ideal choice for busy environments.
Cabinet resurfacing offers enhanced durability compared to painting. The new materials used in resurfacing are designed to withstand daily wear and tear, making them suitable for high-traffic areas. Maintenance is generally straightforward, requiring regular cleaning and occasional touch-ups to keep the surfaces looking their best.
In Michigan, the costs of cabinet painting and resurfacing can vary significantly based on several factors, including the size of the project, materials used, and labor costs. Generally, cabinet painting is more affordable, with prices typically ranging from $2,200 to $4,500 for an average kitchen. In contrast, resurfacing can range from $4,500 to $9,000, depending on the complexity of the job.
Several factors influence the costs associated with cabinet refinishing, including:
Materials: The type of paint or veneer chosen can significantly impact the overall cost.
Labor: Skilled labor is essential for both painting and resurfacing, and labor costs can vary by region.
Market Trends: Local demand for cabinet refinishing services can also affect pricing.
To optimize your budget when considering cabinet refinishing, businesses can:
Choose the Right Option: Assess whether painting or resurfacing aligns better with your budget and needs.
Utilize Professional Services: Hiring experienced professionals can ensure quality work and minimize costly mistakes.
Invest in Quality Materials: While it may seem tempting to cut costs on materials, investing in high-quality products can lead to better long-term results.
Determining the best cabinet refinishing option for your business requires careful consideration of your specific needs and goals. Evaluate the condition of your cabinets, your budget, and the desired aesthetic outcomes. Consulting with professionals, such as Lasting Impressions, can provide valuable insights and help you make an informed decision.
When assessing your kitchen cabinet makeover goals, consider the following:
Identify Goals: Determine what you want to achieve with your cabinet update, whether it's a fresh look or improved functionality.
Understand Usage Requirements: Consider how often the cabinets will be used and the level of wear they will experience.
Set Realistic Expectations: Establish a timeline and budget that align with your goals.

Cabinet Painting: Transforming existing cabinets with high-quality paint for a fresh look.
